About Sarcosuchus

Sarcosuchus lived approximately 112 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period in what is now North Africa.

Often nicknamed "SuperCroc," Sarcosuchus was one of the largest crocodile relatives ever to exist, growing to an estimated 11 to 12 metres (36 to 40 feet) in length. Unlike modern crocodiles, it possessed a remarkably elongated skull lined with over 100 conical teeth perfectly suited for grabbing fish and other prey.

Although it undoubtedly hunted large animals when opportunities arose, paleontologists believe much of its diet likely consisted of fish and other aquatic creatures inhabiting the vast river systems that crossed prehistoric Africa.

One fascinating feature is the large rounded structure at the tip of its snout, known as the bulla. While its exact purpose remains uncertain, scientists believe it may have played a role in vocalization, display, or helping detect vibrations in the water.
